Man in custody in fatal Philadelphia shooting of woman, assault of 2 others, police say

A man is in custody in the shooting death of a woman and the assault of two other women in Philadelphia. Officers arrested 33-year-old Jamal Pistoria early Friday morning on South Broad Street, police said. Pistoria fatally shot 34-year-old Ofelia Bellaniri Hernandez Camill in the area of Stenton Avenue and East Washington Lane on Monday afternoon, according to a Philadelphia Police Department news release. He is also accused of assaulting two additional women. Hernandez Camill was working inside Abba Blessed Beauty Salon when she was shot and killed, Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom with the Philadelphia police homicide unit said during a press conference Friday. Pistoria assaulted two other women inside the salon before fleeing on foot, Ransom said. There's no indication that the suspect knew anyone in the salon, Ransom added. Police received a radio call about a wanted homicide suspect around 1 a.m. Friday. Two officers boarded a SEPTA bus on the 500 block of South Broad Street and arrested Pistoria without incident, Ransom said. Pistoria is expected to face charges including murder, attempted murder and assault. "Jamal Pistoria's arrest was the result of a citizen calling 911. The citizen provided the 911 call taker with all the pertinent information we needed, that included the bus route number," Ransom said.
